Pomena College

Pomona College is set apart from the rest by their small class sizes, top-notch facilities and their decorated and distinguished professors, who work closely with roughly 1,500 students each academic year. These key elements of education at Pomona College ensure a high rate of success. Established back in 1887, Pomona College has since become widely regarded as one of the best liberal arts colleges in all of America.

Located in sunny Claremont, California, which is a charming town just 35 miles east of Los Angeles, it allows students easy access to the exciting life of this major city. Pomona is the proud founding member of The Claremont Colleges, which is a consortium of seven independent institutions blending the resources and excellence of a university with the intimate setting of a smaller college. Courses are wide ranging from chemical engineering to waste water grit removal and this selection makes this diverse college a popular choice for students from all corners of the United States. World famous white sand beaches, amazing ski resorts and Los Angeles' many entertainment and cultural offerings all are within driving distance of the Pomona campus.

Many prestigious academic awards have been bestowed upon Pomona graduates and students alike, including Rhodes, Fulbright, and Watson scholarships as well as several grants for the business students to make your own business cards, or grants for those students that are on financial assistance. Pomona students come from 48 states of America, Puerto Rico as well as 24 foreign countries including Columbia, Brazil, Canada and Australia, to name a few. Roughly 6 percent of the student body are international students, which speaks volumes about the integrity and prestige of a degree from Pomona; students are willing to travel across the globe for this great educational experience.

The College has 178 full-time instructional faculty members and professors teach all classes, not graduate students. The average class size is around 16 students and even smaller for special labs and tutorial sections. Virtually all faculty members hold a rank of professor, associate professor, or assistant professor and they all hold masters or doctoral degrees. Pomona professors are easily accessible outside of classroom hours, whether engaging their students in cutting-edge research on everything from microbiology to heat shrink tubing, or sharing a casual meal together at the cafe to discuss the latest material, lecture or just life in general. The professors are excellent mentors that challenge, inspire and support their students throughout their academic careers.

The curriculum at Pomona is as diverse as the student body, offering 45 majors in the natural sciences, humanities, social sciences, and fine arts. Students may also choose to take courses at any of the other Claremont Colleges. This allows students to specialize in electronic design and manufacturing and still take the painting classes they love so much. There is a great deal of flexibility in the majors, which allows for this type of diverse and well-rounded learning.

As one of the highest-ranking schools in the entire state, it is quite easy to see why many students of all ages and abilities choose to relocate to Pomona for this amazing educational experience. Graduates have enjoyed successful careers, some even working abroad for foreign banks and the Canada trademark office. If you or your children are looking for a great school, Pomona College is certainly an excellent option in sunny California!
